Description:

h264enc is an advanced and powerful interactive menu-driven shell script written for the Linux operating system which can help you to encode a DVD or a regular video file to the H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10/AVC video format using the MEncoder encoder from the MPlayer project and the libx264 library. It supports virtually all options of the libx264 library and a wide range of audio codecs. Further, it supports muxing the final encode from AVI to Matroska, from AVI to OGM, from AVT to TS and from AVI to the MP4 container.

h264enc is written in a way to be useful for power users yet it is also very user friendly for people who are novices when it comes to video encoding. h264enc operates by asking questions to the user, collecting the input and passing it over to the encoder software. One of its unique features is the ability to use built-in video quality presets. This is especially useful to people who are just starting to encode video or who don't want to go through the whole manual codec configuration every time they want to encode something.

The script was previously hosted on kde-apps.org but I moved it here as it is the right place for such things.

 7.9.3 ihqvp

First, thanks for this nice script.

If I do
sh h264enc -2p -p ihqvp
and say yes to Accurate Rounding it crashes with
line 1: 21884 Segmentation fault

Without Accurate Rounding it's ok.

If I save the options, the only difference I can see, is that there are some extra ":" when accurate rounding is selected:
,yadif,scale=640:480:0:0::::0:1

This is a known bug in MEncoder when ran on 64-bit systems. I was actually the one who discovered this bug some time ago and did a backtrace on MEncoder and sent the GDB output to the MPlayer devs. However, I didn't receive any reply from the MPlayer folks so I guess they haven't fixed it yet, or maybe even forgot? I don't know really. With Accurate Rounding for the software scaler, MEncoder segfaults on my machine too (openSUSE 10.2).

The : you see is that I escape some of the scaler's features as they are not needed. The scale option of MEncoder accepts these options in the order below

scale[=w:h[:ilaced[:chr_drop[:par[:par2[:presize[:noup[:arnd]]]]]]]]

I escape the chr_drop, presize and the noup options by placing : instead, which leaves them empty. The last option (arnd) is for accurate rounding and I've never seen MEncoder crash with it when ran on 32-bit systems, it only occurs on 64-bit ones

Oh, I'm running 64 bit Mandriva, so that is why it crashes.

Thanks for the explanation.

No problem, but even without Accurate Rounding, the picture looks excellent, so this option is not really needed but I do support it :)
